David Bustamante owns three hectares of land in Campo Redondo, Amazonas, where he grows geisha variety. David saw that many other producers in the area were planting geisha and getting good results, both in cup quality and yields, and since he is at much higher altitude than them he thought that planting geisha would be a sustainable option for him, since he had previously planted catimor which was a lot of work for little return.
David bought seeds from a neighbour in 2019 and planted them the same year, he now has 2ha planted with geisha and intends to plant one more hectare. The line of geisha he has appears to be a pure one and he even selected only the green tip plants as they’re thought to have better quality. David hires pickers to pick only ripe cherries which are floated and washed prior to drying. The coffee is dried for around 35 days on covered raised beds.
