The farm Mirken is a 3ha plot owned and run by Vicente Chinguel in the village of El Corazon in Chirinos, San Ignacio. Vicente named the farm after his son Mirken, who helped Vicente get the geisha seeds which they have planted in the farm.
Don Vicente was one of the first producers in Northern Peru to plant Geisha, having brought the seeds to the farm in 2015, after seeing that the variety adapted well to the environment and the soils in Chirinos he decided to plant more land with geisha in 2018. Vicente has 3ha of land planted with coffee, of which one hectare is marsellesa variety, half a hectare of catimor and one and a half hectares of geisha.
Vicente hires seasonal workers to pick only red, ripe cherries which are left to rest overnight before being depulped the following day. The coffee is then fermented for 24 hours and following that it’s washed and placed on raised beds where it dries over a period of 10 to 15 days.
