Eli Espinoza Soberon is a first generation, young coffee farmer from the village of Alto Pirias in Chirinos, San Ignacio. Eli moved to Chirinos from Cajamarca to work on coffee farms as a picker and liked the climate and the area and decided to save up all his money to buy land in Chirinos. More than ten years ago he managed to buy his first plot of land, which he planted himself with his wife, Yohany. Whilst he waited for the coffee to grow and produce fruit he continued working in his father in law’s farm. The first plot that Eli planted was planted with a mix of caturra, catimor and bourbon, which to this day he has maintained productive. Since then Eli and Yohany have bought other plots of land and slowly grow the farm to around 3ha,
which is planted with a range of different varieties and recently they have been planting geisha and ET47.
Eli has been producing naturals since 2019 when he started to work on them with Simon from Chacra Coffee and has been developing the fermentation and drying of the natural coffees ever since. This lot was fermented for 72 hours in grainpro bags in a fermentation tank before being placed on raised beds to dry for 30 days.
